The Union County Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific person is being held in the county jail of North Carolina. UnionNCCourt.us helps quickly find publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, information can be obtained through the official portal of the Union County Sheriff, in person at the jail reception, or by phone. A search in the roster allows you to find out the detention status, charges filed, and arrest date. The roster is maintained by the Union County Sheriff's Office; data is regularly updated and posted on the P2C (Police-to-Citizen) portal.
Search Current Inmates in Union Jail
There are several ways to check if a person is in custody.
Online Search
- Go to the Inmate Inquiry page on the Union County Sheriff's Office P2C portal.
- The system displays a list of all individuals currently held in the jail. Each entry includes the name, main charge, arrest date, and the agency that made the arrest.
- If you know the person's full legal name, use the browser's search function (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) to find the last name in the list.
- Click "Details" next to the desired entry to view additional information.
For related court information, use UnionNCCourt.us or the Union County page on the North Carolina Judicial Branch website.
By Phone
Call the jail and provide the person's full legal name and surname. The dispatcher will confirm if the person is being held.
In Person
Visit the Union County Jail reception. Contact the on-duty officer with a request regarding the inmate's status.

Note: Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster. If the person has recently been transferred to a state facility, use the NC DAC offender search.
Find Union Jail Booking Records Online
A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed in the jail. This process includes photographing, fingerprinting, and registering charges in the system.
Each record contains:
- Booking number
- Date and time of processing
- List of charges with class designation (felony or misdemeanor)
- Agency that made the arrest
- Basic demographic data of the detainee
You can view this data online through the Inmate Inquiry page. Additionally, the P2C portal offers a Daily Bulletin — a daily bulletin that records arrests, citations, incidents, and local ordinance violations. Through the Arrest / Incident Search section, you can search by event type and date range.
If you need a copy of a specific record that is not available online, contact the Sheriff's Office with a written request for public records. According to the North Carolina Public Records Law, returned arrest warrants, indictments, and criminal summonses are open documents.
Search the Union Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number
There are two main ways to find the desired person on the P2C portal.
Search by Last Name
The inmate list on the Inmate Inquiry page is sorted alphabetically by last name. Scroll to the desired letter or enter the last name in the browser's search bar. A few tips:
- Use the official legal last name — the system does not recognize abbreviations or nicknames.
- Check the spelling: one extra letter and the result will not appear.
- If the last name is common, add the first name to narrow the results.
Search by Booking Number
The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during processing. It is useful when you already have data from a previous request or received the number from a lawyer or court. Enter it in the appropriate field on the portal to go directly to the desired entry.
If the Search Yields No Results
- Ensure the name is entered correctly, without extra spaces.
- The person may have already been released — the roster only shows those currently in custody.
- The arrest may have occurred very recently, and the data has not yet been entered into the system.
- If the person has been transferred to a state facility, try the NC Department of Adult Correction search.
- Call the jail — the operator can manually check the information.
Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Union
The inmate roster on the Sheriff's Office P2C portal is updated throughout the day as new entries and releases are made. However, this does not happen instantly.
Typical limitations to consider:
- Delay between arrest and appearance on the list. From the moment of arrest to the completion of processing, several hours may pass. During this time, the name will not appear in the online roster.
- Disappearance of the record after release. When a person is released on bail, by court decision, or after serving a term, their data is usually removed from the active list. The roster is not an archive of all past detentions.
- Data entry errors. Sometimes a last name may be recorded with an error or with a different transliteration variant. If you are sure the person is in custody but cannot find them on the list — contact the jail directly.
- Transfer to another facility. Inmates are sometimes transferred to another county jail or state facility. In such cases, the record disappears from the Union County roster.
To check court records, which are maintained independently of the jail roster, use the court records obtaining portal or visit the Clerk of Court office in Monroe. Paper cases are available for review at the court office of the county where the case is being heard.
